Event Date: Friday, October 13 - 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Location: McKenna Theater, Creative Arts Building, SFSU

Dear Faculty and students,

Please join us on Friday October 13th for a screening of Tassos Boulmetis’s Mythopathy (2016) with the director in person. The screening will take place in the McKenna Theater in the Creative Arts Building at noon, as part of the Contemporary Cinema 102. The screening is open to the public and presented by the Modern Greek Studies Foundation and the School of Cinema at San Francisco State University.

Tassos Boulmetis came to prominence with his acclaimed A Touch of Spice from 2003, one of the most popular Greek films of all time. Boulmetis latest film, Mythopathy (Notias or "South Wind" in Greek) follows a boy through his youth as he lives through tumultuous political times in Greece (1970s and 1980s). He seems to be infected with a "south wind" condition that causes him to see famous myths and history with a wild twist as he seeks to produce films of his visions. Boulmetis describes the film as “sarcastic nostalgia” and it is as much about the present-day situation in Greece as it is the nation’s past.  Lecturer Justin Vaccaro will conduct a Q&A with the artist after the screening.
