A new course has opened up taught by Steven Choe for Seniors!

Cinema 610 Senior Seminar: Two New American Authors: Terrence Malick and William Friedkin Wednesdays 9:10-11:55

In this course we will screen and discuss films by two New American auteurs: Terrence Malick and William Friedkin. In addition to films such as Badlands (1973), The Thin Red Line (1998), The French Connection (1971), and The Exorcist (1973), we will look at their lesser-known works such as Sorcerer (1977) and To Live and Die in LA (1985). Issues to be discussed include: the representation of violence, new forms of film production and distribution, questions of theology and politics, critiques of gender, the ethics of melodrama, mutations in film genre, and the persistence of art and the auteur, among others.​
