Professor Joseph McBride re-releases HAWKS ON HAWKS

Monday, December 2, 2013 - 15:36

The University Press of Kentucky brings back HAWKS ON HAWKS on December 3.

Hawks on Hawks is Professor McBride's interview book with the director Howard Hawks. Considered the most versatile of the great American directors, Hawks is known for such films as RIO BRAVO, RED RIVER, BRINGING UP BABY, THE BIG SLEEP, and GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.

HAWKS ON HAWKS is drawn from interviews conducted with Hawks from 1970 until his death in 1977. The book was first published in 1982 by the University of California Press and was also published in the UK by Faber and Faber and in five other languages (French, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, and Finnish). The French director François Truffaut, whose interview book with Alfred Hitchcock set the standard for director interviews, wrote, "I read HAWKS ON HAWKS with passion. I am very happy that this book exists."

HAWKS ON HAWKS has been out of print for several years and is now being brought back by the University Press of Kentucky. While this is substantially the same book, with a few revisions, it's in a larger format than the original edition, making it easier to read.
