Johnny Symons to join Cinema faculty

Department welcomes new professor with documentary focus. The SFSU Cinema Department is pleased to announce the hiring of independent documentary filmmaker Johnny Symons, who will join the Cinema faculty in the fall of 2013.

Johnny has a 20-year track record of directing and producing award-winning films including Daddy and Papa, Beyond Conception, and Ask Not. Ask Not, an exploration of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, screened nationally on PBS and garnered Johnny an invitation to the White House to attend President Obama’s signing ceremony when the policy was repealed. He has taught in numerous Bay Area film programs, including Stanford University, University of San Francisco, and California College of the Arts, and will be an essential voice as the Cinema Department expands its documentary filmmaking emphasis.
