R.L. Rutsky

Biography

Professor Rutsky has taught Film and Media Studies at Indiana University, the University of Notre Dame, UC Irvine, and UCLA before coming to San Francisco State. He was a co-founder and editor of the journal Strategies: Journal of Theory, Culture and Politics from 1988 to 2004, and a founding member of the editorial collective of the journal Emergences from 1990 to 2005. His research ranges from film, media and cultural theory to new technologies, popular culture, and film and media history. He is the author of High Techne: Art and Technology from the Machine Aesthetic to the Posthuman and co-editor of Information in an Age of Consumption, Strategies for Theory: From Marx to Madonna, and Film Analysis: A Norton Reader. He has also published essays on new technologies, popular culture, and film, media, and cultural theory in many collections and journals.
