UNSEEING EMPIRE and Cinema Studies with Bakirathi Mani and Patricia White
Event Date: Friday, April 30 - 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

What does it mean when diasporic communities demand greater visibility and representation?
The School of Cinema is delighted to welcome Professor Bakirathi Mani and Professor Patricia White, two brilliant scholars from Swarthmore College, to speak on issues of representing racialized immigrants in photography and in cinema.
They will discuss Professor Mani's new book UNSEEING EMPIRE: Photography, Representation, South Asian America (2020), relating those ideas to the work of cinema studies. Professor Elizabeth Ramierez-Soto (SFSU Cinema) will be in conversation with the both of them.
