TRIUMPH OVER PREJUDICE: THE MONTFORD POINT MARINES

Professor Daniel Bernardi’s latest documentary, Triumph Over Prejudice: The Montford Point Marines, has been accepted into two distinct but equally prestigious festivals: the Social Justice Film Festival and the G.I. Film Festival. The film sheds light on the Montford Point Marines — the first African Americans to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps — who battled racial prejudice, endured the hardships of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and faced a turbulent transition to civilian life. Directed by Bernardi, co-produced by Professor Trevor Getz (SFSU Department of History), and brought to life by a dedicated team of School of Cinema graduate students and recent graduates, the documentary is a powerful testament to resilience and service.  The film was also recently picked up for distribution by Journeyman Pictures.
