Karen Holmes

Biography

Karen Holmes’ experimental films have been exhibited all over the US and Europe. At SF State, Professor Holmes has nurtured the spirit of experimental filmmaking for over thirty years. She has been the Cinema Department’s vehicle for transmitting not only the skills but also the vision of what experimental cinema can be and how it can influence all forms of cinematic expression. In the meantime, she has earned the devotion of generations of students. As one former student puts it, “I have had many wonderful teachers, but Karen is in a class all her own. Karen does more than teach film production; she transforms lives."
